A warm and welcoming smile supported by committed professionalism has been the hallmark of South Africa’s Optical Centre and its highly trained optometrists for the past 40 years.

We have been caring for South Africans of all ages for nearly half a century and we have consistently achieved the highest standards in eye care by using the latest technology – and by building an A League team of highly qualified optometrists, optical dispensers, optical mechanics, social workers, and remedial therapists, with friendly, on-the-ball receptionists as our frontline staff!

The company has offices with fully equipped, state-of-the-art examination rooms in Sandton City, Hyde Park and Blubird Shopping Centres in Johannesburg, in the province of Gauteng – plus a high-tech, on-site laboratory that we are particularly proud of, as part of our Sandton operation.

All of us on the Optical Centre team are focused on client care with a special interest in children’s vision, low vision and its associated aids, eye examinations, spectacle lens innovations, the booming field of contact lenses and, of course, fashion eyewear.

Our Team

Allan Kaye

Allan Kaye Allan is a co-founder of The Optical Centre. After qualifying as an Optometrist in South Africa, he furthered his studies in the UK and US, specializing in Contact Lenses and Low Vision in the respective countries. He is based at our Sandton branch, but available for Low Vision in Hyde Park on Wednesdays and Friday mornings.

Ivan Etkin

Ivan Etkin Ivan, the other co-founder of the organisation, qualified in South Africa, but also confirmed his status as optometrist in the UK. He is practicing in Sandton City exclusively.

Danelle du Plessis

Danielle du Plessis Danelle, who practices at our Sandton branch, not only satisfied the requirements for her Optometric degree in South Africa, but is also certified in binocular vision from the UK.
